"1,000 steps - 80 emotions": a wide variety of goods present themselves within a short distance in our compact and colourful town centre. Over 300 owner-run specialist shops of all kinds. The market square is considered to be one of the most beautiful in South Germany. This is the middle, the heart of the town: charming and vivacious with an easy straightforwardness - we know each other here.
A shopping spree
Feeling, tasting, smelling; you can find the very latest fashions in shops with metropolitan flair or really unusual styles in small exclusive boutiques and rustic shops against a historic backdrop on a shopping spree through the town centre.

Markets - Tradition, meeting point, regional focus
On Wednesday and Saturday mornings, a lively hustle and bustle can be experienced at the Biberach weekly market (Wochenmarkt), which is one of the most visually appealing of its kind in the region. In addition to the fresh fruits and vegetables offered directly from producers, there are also regional delicacies, flowers, handcrafted goods, sausage and cheese from the rural farm economy and, of course, Swabian dinette ─ Upper Swabia's own special version of pizza.
Market tradition well into the Middle Ages
Rich market tradition
The marketplace tradition dates all the way back to the Middle Ages. Biberach, which is now well over 800 years old, used to be known as a key trading and market town for centuries. As it was considered the hub of an otherwise predominantly agricultural environment, Biberach ─ which was then an imperial city ─ was home of the go-to marketplace in the area. It was here that merchants came in droves carrying goods such as grain, salt and wine. Handcrafted goods such as cloths, leather and various food items were also sold at special markets such as the cattle, pig and timber markets. With the exception of the market square, all of these places of commerce have faded into the pages of history.
Four fairs
In addition to the weekly market, four fairs ─ the Lent market, Pentecost market, Michaeli market and Martini market ─ are still held in the market square each year. Historical traditions are alive and well in the Biberach market district. As was the case centuries ago when the rural population stocked up on supplies of linen and household effects at the traditional markets, the products sold today are still primarily clothing, household goods, pottery, cleaning products, petty wares and toys. Decorative materials, bags and arts and crafts products round off the range. Children love the roasted almonds on sale and waste no time discovering the children's carousel.
